Chetan Bhagat in his One Indian girl writes all about feminism and more about humanism. The plot of One Indian Girl has locations in New York, London and Hong Kong, sex on the beach, a Punjabi wedding. So the story is about an immensely successful woman who has to choose between three brainless but adorable men. One is boring and cricket, Bollywood fan. Second is a Bengali communist who has a penchant for the word “Baby”. The third is highly desirable but entirely inappropriate old man. Why does a woman who is successful and talented have to choose between these three men is the story.
The novel has all the Bollywood type of masala. Chetan Bhagat deserves accolades for the way he used simple characters and developed all the characters independently by giving them a nice attractive recitation.
Chetan Bhagat has tried to take on many issues like corrosion of woman’s success, career, women being forced to decide between employment and residence. The book nevertheless makes you hold on to it till the last page, that’s where the really feminist part of the book is, when Radhika Mehta, the protagonist takes control of all including her life.
I would say, Chetan Bhagat has improved over Half girlfriend in this book but yes, Chetan Bhagat’s One Indian girl is constantly lost.
